Gli islandesi Sólstafir hanno annunciato ufficialmente, tramite la loro pagina Facebook, che il batterista Guðmundur “Gummi” Óli Palmasson non fa più parte della band a causa di conflitti con gli altri membri. Di seguito il comunicato:
“It is with great pain but quiet respect, that we are making this official statement to inform you that for personal reasons beyond reconciliation, Sólstafir and Guðmundur “Gummi” Óli Palmasson have parted ways indefinitely.
There are always two sides to every story. No one knows the whole story other than those directly involved. As is the case in any relationship, all parties play their roles in creating and ending it. Both parties have their versions, and often at times, the point gets lost along the way, buried in emotions.
The bottom line is, Guðmundur is no longer in the band, because of a deep personal conflict that involves all three remaining members and cannot be solved. He is well aware of this.
The decision to part ways was absolutely not something that happened overnight, and we are genuinely pained by the way things have turned out. If the three of us had felt there was any way of mending the damage and moving forward with Guðmundur, then of course we would have – and we did make genuine efforts to do so. That is the reason for our silence. Waiting so long to make a statement was wrong on our part, and for that, we apologize. There are so many personal levels to this split. It has been very difficult to find the words while still respecting our individual privacy, Guðmundur’s included.
Despite what we have read that appears to have been written in anger, bitterness, and seemingly spite, we continue to hold no ill will toward Guðmundur and sincerely want to thank him for all of his hard work and being such a huge part of the band for all these years. We acknowledge this fact every day and of course, he will receive his fair share. There was never any intention not to do this. We will never forget his role in Sólstafir, which is why we remain silent about the reasons now and in the future. We can only hope you respect and understand this.
Sólstafir will continue as a three piece with a session percussionist, just as we have since January of this year. We hope to see you all on the road and can only ask for your continued support.

“È con gran dolore ma con rispetto che scriviamo questo comunicato ufficiale per informarvi che per ragioni personali al di là di ogni riconciliazione, le strade di Guðmundur “Gummi” Óli Palmasson e i Sólstafir si sono separate a tempo indeterminato.
Ci sono sempre due lati di ogni storia. Nessuno, oltre chi è direttamente coinvolto, conosce la storia per intero. Come nel caso di ogni relazione, tutte le parti hanno il loro ruolo nella sua creazione e nella sua fine. Entrambe le parti hanno le loro versioni, e spesso il punto si perde lungo la strada, sepolto dalle emozioni.
La linea base è che Guðmundur non fa più parte della band a causa di un profondo conflitto personale che coinvolge tutti e tre i restanti membri e non può essere risolto. Lui è a conoscenza di tutto ciò.
La decisione di dividerci non è assolutamente stato qualcosa che accade da un giorno all’altro, e siamo genuinamente provati dal modo in cui le cose si sono sviluppate. Se noi tre avessimo sentito che ci fosse stato qualche modo per riparare al danno e andare avanti con Guðmundur, ci saremmo – e ci siamo sforzati sinceramente per farlo. Questa è la ragione del nostro silenzio. Aspettare così a lungo per redigere un comunicato è stato un errore e, per questo, ci scusiamo. Ci sono molti livelli personali per questa separazione. È stato molto difficile trovare le parole rispettando comunque la nostra privacy personale, inclusa quella di Guðmundur.
Nonostante ciò che abbiamo letto appaia come scritto con rabbia, amarezza e apparentemente disprezzo, continuiamo a non nutrire rancore nei confronti di Guðmundur e vogliamo sinceramente ringraziarlo per tutto il suo duro lavoro e per essere stato una parte importante della band per tutti questi anni. Lo riconosciamo ogni giorno e certamente lui riceverà la sua giusta porzione. Non c’è mai stata alcuna intenzione di non farlo. Non dimenticheremo mai il suo ruolo nei Sólstafir, ecco perché taceremo riguardo le ragioni, ora e in futuro. Possiamo solo sperare che voi rispettiate e capiate tutto ciò.
I Sólstafir andranno avanti con tre membri, con un turnista alle percussioni, come abbiamo fatto a partire da gennaio di quest’anno. Speriamo di vedervi tutti in giro e possiamo solo chiedere il vostro continuo supporto.
