Dopo il clamore suscitato lo scorso anno per il videoclip di “Orca”, gli sludge metallers australiani Lo! si apprestano a pubblicare il terzo album Vestigial, la cui release è prevista per il 6 ottobre per i tipi di Pelagic Records. Il primo brano estratto dal nuovo album è “Glutton”, presentato in anteprima per Grind On The Road.
Vestigial si presenta come un passo avanti nella discografia della band di Sidney. I brani sono ben scritti e hanno una portata più ampia, il suono è heavy ma organico, c’è una grande densità armonica dietro i riff e la band suona più coesa che in passato. Una delle ragioni può essere il ritorno in patria del batterista Adrian Griffin, che aveva passato gli ultimi sette anni in Asia. Questo il commento del chitarrista Carl Whitbread:
“Stavolta abbiamo avuto molto più tempo per stare insieme come band e lavorare come si deve sui brani, anziché con la solita fretta del caso. Credo che ci siamo sentiti molto più connessi tra noi, in seguito al rientro di Adrian”.
“Un mondo in cui la politica sembra una commedia noir, in cui le armi sono diventate un aspetto culturale e dove la dipendenza dalla tecnologia è la norma è il nucleo tematico di Vestigial. “Ci sono alcuni personaggi che si ripetono nel corso dell’album; JUDAS STEER, LOCUST CHRIST… questi sono anti-eroi, i lupi tra le pecore. I terribili Donald Trump, i Kim Jong-Un, gli estremisti e ignoranti tiranni delle nostre vite moderne” commenta il vocalist Sam Dillon.

Sydney’s Lo! literally made a splash last year with the ingenious video clip for “Orca”: the clip showed vocalist Sam Dillon as a vicious creature emerging from a vat of shiny pink goo, in front of an otherwise completely black background.
Lo!’s 3rd full length album Vestigial is next level. The songs are well-crafted and have a larger scope, the sound is heavy yet organic, there is a great harmonic density behind the stupefyingly heavy riffs and the band sounds tighter than ever before. One of the reasons might be that drummer Adrian Griffin, who had spent the last 7 years in Asia, moved back to Australia.
“This time we had much more time to all be together as a band and really work on the songs properly instead of the last minute rush that usually happens. I think we all felt more connected now having Adrian back in the country”, comments guitarist Carl Whitbread.
“A world where politics resemble black comedies, where guns have become an aspect of culture and where addiction to technology is the norm is at the lyrical heart of VESTIGIAL. “There are several repeated characters throughout the album; the JUDAS STEER, the LOCUST CHRIST… these are anti heroes, the wolves among sheep figuratively. The ghastly Donald Trumps, The Kim Jong-Uns, the extremists and ignorant tyrants of our modern lives”, comments Dillon.
