Ci siamo già espressi sulla bontà dell’operato dei Lo! in occasione dell’anteprima del brano “Glutton”, oltre che in sede di recensione. Oggi il combo sludge/post-metal australiano rilascia un nuovo estratto dal nuovo album Vestigial, in uscita il 6 ottobre per Pelagic Records. Si tratta del videoclip del brano “Locust Christ”, che prosegue nel solco innovativo, cinematico e disturbante aperto nel 2015 con il video di “Orca”.
Il videoclip è stato diretto e prodotto dal bassita Adrian Shapiro insieme a una crew comprendente l’agenzia Odd Studio, realizzatrice delle protesi, che ha vinto di recente un Oscar per Mad Max: Fury Road. Questo il commento di Shapiro:
“Mi sono dato alcune regole per le riprese, tra cui il fatto di voler filmare il tutto dal retro dell’auto per incrementare la claustrofobia ed essere del tutto concentrati sulla coppia. Abbiamo avuto dei minimi cambi di inquadratura e volevo realizzare la maggior parte degli effetti in camera, quindi praticamente ciò che vedi è ciò che abbiamo filmato, un po’ riordinato. Ho anche scelto di riprendere di giorno perché credevo che facesse sembrare tutto ancora più strano.
Il brano è spietato e mi piaceva la giustapposizione di una coppia normale che viaggia in auto, per poi vedere la loro transizione primitiva, cominciando da un bacio e poi mischiarsi tra loro alla fine del video, nella stessa auto.”

We already spoke about the quality of Lo!‘s work in our premiere for the song “Glutton”, and then in our review section. Today the australian sludge/post-metal outfit is streaming a new song from the new album Vestigial, which is to be released on October the 6th by Pelagic Records. The official videoclip taken from the song “Locust Christ” is showing a truly outstanding and innovative approach to visual arts in heavy music, as the video for “Orca” did in 2015.
The video was directed and produced by Lo! bass player Adrian Shapiro with a small crew including member of Oscar winning company Odd Studio who created the disturbing prosthetics. Odd recently won an oscar for Mad Max Fury Road.
Adrian says:
“I set myself some rules for the shoot including that I wanted to shoot everything from the back of the car to increase the claustrophobia and be purely focussed on the couple. We had minimal camera position changes and I wanted to do as much of the effects work in camera so basically what you’re seeing is what we’ve shot with a bit of tidy up. I also chose to shoot it in the day as I felt that it made the whole reveal even stranger.
The song is unrelenting and I liked the juxtaposition of the regular couple driving their car and then seeing their primal transition starting with a kiss and finally merging together by the end of the clip in the same car.”
